Ackeem Auguste Leads Saint Lucia Kings to Thrilling Win Over Guyana Amazon Warriors
Game 13 of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 witnessed a breathtaking contest as defending champions Saint Lucia Kings pulled off a sensational run chase against last season’s runners-up, Guyana Amazon Warriors, at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.
The hero of the night was Ackeem Auguste, who produced a match-winning innings of 73 runs off just 35 deliveries, earning him the Player of the Match award and guiding the Kings to a four-wicket triumph with 11 balls to spare.
Chasing a daunting 202/6, the Kings remained calm under pressure, showcasing their champion mindset. The victory propels them into second place on the CPL points table with six points from five matches, despite two rain-affected no-results.
Earlier, the Warriors opted to bat first after winning the toss, with Romario Shepherd lighting up the innings with a brutal 73 off 34 balls, smashing five fours and seven sixes to set what looked like a match-winning total. However, their bowlers could not contain the Kings’ aggressive reply, as the reigning champions handed the Warriors their first defeat of the tournament.
The chase was ignited in the Powerplay as Tim Seifert and Auguste counter-attacked after the early dismissal of Johnson Charles, piling on 86 runs inside six overs to tilt the game firmly in the Kings’ favor.
Although Auguste fell to Jediah Blades with the score at 140-4, the job was finished by Tim David (25), Aaron Jones (16) and skipper *David Wiese (10 off 7)**, who ensured the Kings crossed the line with composure.
With this emphatic win, the Kings sent a clear signal to their rivals: the defending champions remain very much in the hunt to retain their CPL crown.
