Saint Lucia Kings Defeat St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in Last-Ball Thriller
The Saint Lucia Kings edged out the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots by three runs in a dramatic last-ball finish in Match 6 of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) at Warner Park. A thrilling contest saw the Patriots fall just short in their chase of 201, despite a brilliant debut innings from Navin Bidaisee.
Batting first, the Kings posted 200 for eight, led by captain Roston Chase who struck 61 from 38 balls in an authoritative display. His innings was supported by valuable lower-order contributions that pushed the total beyond 200. The Patriots bowlers struggled to contain the scoring rate, with Chase in particular punishing anything loose.
In reply, the Patriots fought hard with Bidaisee announcing himself on the CPL stage with a composed 50 off 36 balls. His innings kept the match alive until the very last delivery when four runs were needed from David Wiese’s final ball. Bidaisee struck powerfully towards long-off but Tim David held on to a crucial boundary catch, sparking celebrations for the Kings and heartbreak for the home crowd.
Chase was equally effective with the ball, claiming two for 27 with his clever spin. His wickets included Rilee Rossouw and captain Jason Holder, halting the Patriots’ progress at key moments. For his all-round effort, Chase was named Player of the Match. “It was nerve-racking,” Chase admitted afterwards. “We made it harder than it should have been, but I’m grateful for the two points.”
The defeat leaves the Patriots with just one win from four matches, their third consecutive loss, while the Saint Lucia Kings climb to the top of the CPL standings on net run rate despite their opening game against the Falcons being abandoned due to rain.
