Guyana Amazon Warriors began their CPL 2026 campaign with a six-wicket win over Jamaica Kingsmen at Sabina Park in Kingston, chasing down a target of 118 with 35 balls to spare. The result left the Kingsmen winless after three matches this season.
Guyana Amazon Warriors, who opted to bowl first after winning the toss, restricted Jamaica Kingsmen to 117 all out in 19.4 overs. A 35-run third-wicket stand between Reeza Hendricks and Rovman Powell was the highlight of the innings, and stands as the Kingsmen’s highest third-wicket partnership in T20 cricket. Vitel Lawes chipped in late with 14 before being bowled with two balls of the innings remaining.
Mohammad Nabi was the pick of the Guyana bowlers, finishing with figures of 4 for 22 to trigger the Kingsmen collapse.
In reply, Guyana Amazon Warriors lost opener Mavendra Dindyal without scoring in the first over, edging behind on his CPL debut. Glenn Phillips responded with a rapid 28 off 17 balls before Andre Russell struck twice in the same over, removing Phillips and then Shimron Hetmyer cheaply to leave the Warriors at 45 for 3 inside the powerplay.
Shai Hope then anchored the chase, adding a stand of around 50 runs for the fourth wicket with Nabi, who made 19 off 15 balls before holing out at long-on. Hope went on to complete a 40-ball fifty, his 15th in CPL history, and remained unbeaten on 56 as Guyana Amazon Warriors reached 118 for 4 in 14.1 overs to seal victory.
Russell’s two wickets took his overall tally to five for Jamaica Kingsmen in T20 cricket, moving him past Keemo Paul’s previous mark of three. Hassan Khan also set a new franchise record, taking four catches in the match to surpass Rovman Powell’s previous best of three.
Nabi was named Player of the Match for his all-round contribution of 19 runs, four wickets and two catches.
The defeat is Jamaica Kingsmen’s third in as many matches this season, following earlier losses to Antigua and Barbuda Falcons and a five-run defeat to Barbados Tridents. Guyana Amazon Warriors, who finished as runners-up to Trinbago Knight Riders last season, opened their 2026 campaign with a comfortable win.
