Jamaica Kingsmen secured their first win of the 2026 Caribbean Premier League season, chasing down 183 against Trinbago Knight Riders by five wickets with eight balls to spare in the tournament’s eighth match.

Kirk McKenzie set the tone for the chase with a rapid 69 off 25 balls, leaving Kingsmen needing only 90 more runs from 13 overs with nine wickets still in hand. TKR clawed their way back into the contest through tight spells from spinners Sunil Narine, Usman Tariq and Akeal Hosein, along with Kieron Pollard, restricting Kingsmen to just 36 runs across the next eight overs for the loss of three wickets. That left the chasing side needing 54 runs from the final 30 balls.

Andre Russell and Rovman Powell settled the contest from there, adding 45 runs in two overs with five fours and three sixes between them. Russell fell for 27 off 15 balls to Terrance Hinds, but Powell finished unbeaten on 29 off 22 to take Kingsmen over the line. Tariq was the pick of the TKR bowlers with figures of 3 for 21.

Earlier, after being sent in to bat, TKR were restricted to just 69 runs inside the first ten overs as Colin Munro managed only 16 off 26 balls and Alex Hales made 29 off 21. The innings turned in the 13th over when Pollard took Vitel Lawes for four consecutive boundaries — a four followed by three sixes — before Nicholas Pooran joined the assault with two sixes off Odean Smith the following over. Pollard and Pooran put on 67 runs for the third wicket, with Pollard finishing on 44 and Pooran also making 44. Narine provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 19 off eight balls as TKR closed on 182 for 6, a total that ultimately fell short.

The result gives Jamaica Kingsmen their opening win of the CPL 2026 campaign, while Trinbago Knight Riders will look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
