Trinbago Knight Riders Beat Barbados Royals by 7 Wickets in CPL 2025
Trinbago Knight Riders tightened their grip on the CPL 2025 table with a commanding seven-wicket win over Barbados Royals in Port of Spain on Thursday night. The Royals, still searching for their first victory of the season, put up 178 for six after being asked to bat, but the total never felt enough once Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran got going in the chase.
Sherfane Rutherford looked in fine touch for Barbados, striking 45, while Kadeem Alleyne added 41 and captain Rovman Powell chipped in with 31. They had a platform to push past 190, but Andre Russell’s clever variations stopped the momentum. The Knight Riders’ allrounder grabbed three wickets for 37 and dismissed both Powell and Rutherford at crucial stages, denying the Royals a strong finish.
In reply, Trinbago lost Alex Hales and Keacy Carty early, yet there was no panic. Munro, who has made Port of Spain a happy hunting ground over the years, controlled the innings with a fluent 67 off 44 balls, striking seven fours and three sixes. He was dropped on 27 and made Barbados pay with a counter-attacking stand alongside his captain. Pooran was in full command, launching Powell for three consecutive sixes and finishing unbeaten on 65 from 40 deliveries. Their 93-run partnership sealed the contest, and Trinbago cruised home with 13 balls to spare.
The result keeps the Knight Riders at the top of the standings with four wins in five games, while the Royals’ slide continues with four straight defeats. Munro was named Player of the Match and later reflected on his success with the franchise, saying it felt special to contribute at a venue that has brought him plenty of memories. For Trinbago, the focus now shifts to their next test against Guyana Amazon Warriors, while Barbados face the daunting task of reviving a faltering campaign before their playoff hopes vanish completely.
