Falcons End Warriors’ Unbeaten CPL Run With 65-Run Win

The Antigua & Barbuda Falcons ended the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ unbeaten run in the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League, beating them by 65 runs at Providence Stadium on September 9. The result closed out the Falcons’ group-stage campaign and confirmed their place in the top two of the standings.
Put in to bat, the Falcons posted 182/5, built around a late assault that yielded 72 runs from the final five overs. Karima Gore and Evin Lewis gave the innings a solid start in the Power Play, with Gore finding the boundary against Dwaine Pretorius and Romario Shepherd before falling to Khary Pierre. Lewis was later trapped lbw by Imran Tahir, whose economical spell restricted the flow of runs through the middle overs alongside Mohammad Nabi. Shadab Khan provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 30 off just nine balls, targeting the pace of Shamar Joseph and Shepherd in the closing stages.
In reply, the Warriors began aggressively, racing to more than 11 runs per over inside the Power Play despite losing Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Shai Hope in the third over to a double strike from Alzarri Joseph. The innings unravelled from there, with the Warriors slipping to 71/4 by the end of the Power Play. Joseph accounted for Mavendra Dindyal, while Joshua James dismissed Shimron Hetmyer with the first ball he bowled.
Shadab Khan and Sufyan Moqim combined for four wickets across four overs to push the Warriors further behind, and although Tahir and Nabi briefly steadied the innings, Joseph removed Tahir with a yorker to finish with figures of 4/41. James wrapped up the innings two balls into his next spell, bowling the Warriors out for 117 inside 15 overs — the first time this season Guyana has lost more than five wickets in an innings.
Shadab Khan was named Player of the Match for his contributions with bat and ball. The win also avenged the Falcons’ earlier defeat to the Warriors at home this season.
The Amazon Warriors, who had already secured a playoff spot, will look to regroup when they face the St Lucia Kings on Wednesday.
