Gudakesh Motie’s Last-Over Blitz Fires Barbados Tridents Into CPL Playoffs

Barbados Tridents booked their place in the knockout stages of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League after Gudakesh Motie struck 17 runs off the final over to complete a dramatic chase against Jamaica Kingsmen.
Batting at number nine, Motie cut Odeon Smith for four over point before clearing the ropes with a straight six from the next legal delivery. Two wides followed before he squeezed a single off the last ball to get Tridents home, capping an innings that had looked beyond them for long periods.
Motie’s contribution went beyond the bat. Earlier in the match, his figures of 2/7 from three overs had helped restrict a Kingsmen side already assured of a playoff spot to 150. Shadrack Descarte then anchored the Tridents reply, making 56 from 42 balls to keep his side in touch with the target heading into the closing overs.
Jamaica Kingsmen had made a strong start with the bat, reaching 50/1 in the powerplay after captain Chris Green used his full quota of overs inside the first ten. Maaz Sadaqat top-scored with 47 before Motie dismissed him to leave the Kingsmen at 86/3. Despite useful cameos from Andre Russell, Hassan Khan and Keacy Carty, none of the middle order could turn a start into a substantial score as the Tridents bowling attack pulled the innings back.
The chase followed a similar pattern in reverse. Tridents lost three wickets in the powerplay and were forced to chase the game for much of their innings, needing close to two runs a ball through the back half. Descarte’s only two sixes of his innings came in the 15th over, when he struck 16 runs to keep the required rate within reach and complete his maiden T20 half-century.
Motie’s final-over hitting sealed the win and secured Tridents’ place in the latter stages of the tournament. Jamaica Kingsmen, despite the defeat, also progress to the playoffs as the fourth-placed team, finishing above Saint Lucia Kings on net run rate.
