Barbados Tridents Rout Guyana Amazon Warriors to Finish Group Stage on a High

Barbados Tridents closed out the group stage of the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League with a six-wicket win over Guyana Amazon Warriors at Kensington Oval on September 14, bowling out their opponents for just 99 before chasing the target down with 31 balls to spare.
A.M. Ghazanfar and Johann Layne each finished with three wickets as the Warriors posted their second-lowest total of the season. Opener Brandon King then anchored the run chase with an unbeaten 44, guiding the Tridents to their sixth win of the campaign.
Put in to bat, the Warriors found early boundaries and looked settled inside the first two overs. The innings turned in the third, when Ghazanfar took three wickets from five balls. Mavendra Dindyal was stumped after the ball deflected off wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock, before Shai Hope was caught at short mid-wicket two deliveries later. Shimron Hetmyer followed soon after, edging onto his pad for de Kock to complete the catch, leaving the Warriors reeling at 15 for 3.
Glenn Phillips tried to steady the innings but holed out to George Linde, who struck next ball again to remove Dwaine Pretorius and bring up a hat-trick chance. Quinton Sampson and Romario Shepherd added some resistance before Layne dismissed Sampson and then bowled Ronaldo Alimohamed with successive deliveries, setting up another hat-trick opportunity. Sherfane Rutherford needed just one ball to remove Shepherd and end the innings at 99.
Chasing a modest target, the Tridents lost Zachary Carter to Veerasammy Permaul before Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled de Kock for three, but the hosts still reached 33 for 2 at the end of the powerplay. Warriors captain Imran Tahir, playing his 100th CPL match, removed Rutherford, but King and Shadrack Descarte took the game away from the visitors with an aggressive partnership. Descarte’s innings, which featured a series of sweeps and reverse sweeps, was interrupted by a brief weather delay, after which King took over to see the Tridents home.
Despite the defeat, the Warriors finish the group stage top of the standings. The Tridents secure third place and advance to the play-offs on the back of their fourth consecutive win.
