Bhatia’s 57 Leads TKR to Third Straight WCPL Win

Trinbago Knight Riders remained unbeaten in this season’s Women’s CPL after cruising to a nine-wicket win over Jamaica Empress at Kensington Oval on Thursday, chasing down a modest target with 53 balls in hand.
Opener Yastika Bhatia was the architect of the chase, finishing unbeaten on 57 from 34 balls as TKR barely broke stride in pursuit of 101. The only hiccup for the Knight Riders came when Laura Harris was stumped off a sharply turning delivery from Nonkululeko Mlaba, with TKR 35/1 at the end of the fifth over. Captain Deandra Dottin then joined Bhatia and struck 22 off 15 balls, the pair adding an unbroken 69 for the second wicket to close out the match.
Jamaica Empress, playing just their second match as a new franchise, never recovered from a shaky start after being asked to bat first. They lost two wickets off consecutive deliveries in the second over, one of them former Australia captain Meg Lanning, and could not build any real momentum from there. Rashada Williams top-scored with a watchful 40 off 47 balls, but support was limited, and Empress were restricted to 100/9 from their 20 overs. Chinelle Henry, who had top-scored in the Empress’ win on debut, was again unbeaten at the end, finishing on 22.
Karishma Ramharack was named Player of the Match for figures of 3/11 from her four overs, the pick of a tight Knight Riders bowling display that gave Empress little room to accelerate.
The result puts TKR two wins from two in the competition, and they will next face the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Jamaica Empress, who still have a game in hand, will look to respond when they take on the Barbados Tridents.
