Chris Green and Quinton de Kock Power Barbados Tridents to Four-Wicket Win Over Patriots

Barbados Tridents kept their Republic Bank CPL play-off hopes alive with a four-wicket win over the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at Kensington Oval, a result that eliminated the Patriots from contention.
Set a target of 119, the Tridents got home with opener Quinton de Kock unbeaten on 44, an innings built on just four boundaries but enough to see his side over the line. De Kock also stretched his lead as the tournament’s top run-scorer this season.
The chase was not without alarm — the Patriots took three early wickets inside the PowerPlay, with Jason Holder removing Brandon King and Rivaldo Clarke in the first over and later accounting for Zachary Carter, caught by Wanindu Hasaranga. With the Tridents 38/3 after six overs, de Kock steadied the innings, adding a 38-run stand with Shadrack Descarte and a further 39 with Sherfane Rutherford to close the gap. Kyle Mayers produced a sharp reaction catch to dismiss Chris Green late on, but Daniel Sams finished the match with a six.
The result was set up by a dominant Tridents bowling effort after they chose to field first. Green struck with the second ball of the match to remove Johnson Charles and completed a wicket maiden in his opening over. Sams then had Kyle Mayers caught behind two balls later, and Green added a third wicket in the following over when Andre Fletcher played on, leaving the Patriots reeling at 6/3. They limped to 21/3 at the end of the PowerPlay.
Gudakesh Motie later removed captain Jason Holder, who had made 24, while Wanindu Hasaranga’s 45 off 25 balls — Hasaranga having also starred with the bat in the sides’ earlier meeting this season — was ended by a direct-hit run out from Rutherford. The Patriots were bowled out for 118 off the final delivery of their innings. Green finished with 4/20, with Sams and Motie taking two wickets apiece.
The win moves the Tridents firmly back into play-off contention with two home fixtures still to play, while the loss ends the Patriots’ hopes of reaching the knockout stage this season.
