Tahir and Miraz Spin Warriors Past Kings and Back to CPL Summit , Imran Tahir took 5/17, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed 3/13 on his CPL debut as the Guyana Amazon Warriors beat the St Lucia Kings by four wickets at Providence Stadium on Wednesday night, moving back to the top of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League table.
The result ended the Kings’ preliminary-round campaign. They finish with eight points from four wins and sit fourth in the standings, needing other results to go their way if they are to secure a playoff spot.
Put in to bat, the Kings started cautiously in the Power Play, with Kamil Pooran giving them early momentum before Dwaine Pretorius trapped Tim Seifert lbw. The Kings reached 51/1 at the end of the Power Play and looked set for a competitive total.
That changed once Tahir and Miraz combined. Miraz struck in his first CPL over, removing John Campbell, before Tahir dismissed Pooran and Roston Chase in a devastating spell. Both bowlers picked up further wickets in overs 11 and 12 as the Kings’ innings collapsed. Obus Pienaar’s 35 was the only real resistance before he became Romario Shepherd’s wicket, and the Kings were bowled out for 119.
Chasing a modest target, the Warriors were watchful early, reaching 23/1 at the Power Play stage as they looked to avoid the batting collapse that had cost them against the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons the previous night. Sri Lankan pair Charith Asalanka and Maheesh Theekshana struck in consecutive overs to remove Glenn Phillips and Shai Hope, and Roston Chase added a third wicket to leave the Warriors needing 48 runs from the last five overs with the Kings sensing a comeback.
Quentin Sampson turned the chase back in the Warriors’ favour, hitting Chase for two sixes and a four in three balls during a rapid, unbeaten 37 off 11 deliveries that sealed the four-wicket win.
The victory puts the Warriors back on top of the CPL 2026 standings with two matches still in hand, while the Kings must now wait on other results to see if their season continues.
